<p style="text-align: justify;">Vastlapäev (ka lihaheite-, liugu- ning pudrupäev) on liikuv püha, kuid alati kindlal nädalapäeval &#8211; teisipäeval! Sõna „vastlapäev“ tuleneb alamsaksakeelsest sõnast „<em>vastelavent</em>“, mis otsetõlkes tähendab paastuööd, kasutusele võeti sõnast esimene pool. Kuna vastlapäev on päev enne suurt paastuaega, siis oli traditsiooniks pakkuda rasvaseid ja rikkalikke toite – hommikusöögiks vastlapuder, milleks enamasti oli tangupuder, lõuna ja/või õhtusöögiks valmistati seajalgu ubade või hernestega ning lisaks pakuti ka odrast vastlakaraskit, mis hiljem, 20.sajandil, vahetati välja vastlakukliga, mida serveeriti vahukoorega.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Liulaskmise traditsioon on edasi kandunud põhimõtteliselt muutmata kujul. Tänase päevani käivad liumägedel kelkudega alla laskmas nii noored kui vanad, ning võisteldakse pikema liu nimel. Vanasti tagas pika liu tegemine linataimede pikemaks kasvamise. Linataimedest kooti linakangast, millest valmistati rõivaid ning voodipesu jms.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Seajalad lihast puhtaks söödud, oli traditsiooniks kondist vastlavurride tegemine. Seajalakondi keskele tehti auk, aeti nöör läbi ning tõmmati vurr vurisema. Hiljem asendati seajalg juba nööpidega.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Kui vastlapäeval lume olemasolus ei saa olla kindel, siis kindel saab olla selles, et vähemalt ühe vastlakukli sööb meist igaüks!</p>
<p>Allpool jagan retsepti, mille järgi mina kukleid teen. Samm-sammulise õpetuse juures on lisatud ka pildid.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">3-4. Lisa segule pool jahukogusest ning sega ühtlaseks. Lisa vähehaaval kogu jahu kogus ning kui segamine raskeks muutub, võta appi käed ning sõtku tainast edasi.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">5. Lisa tainale toasoe pehme või ning sõtku see tainasse nii, et lõpptulemuseks oleks tainas jälle ühtlane. Või tainasegu hulka sõtkumine on üsna raske, olenemata, et või on toasoe. Mina tihti sulatan või enne tainasegu sisse lisamist ära &#8211; lisan koos jahuga ning sõtkun kõik koos ühtlaseks.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">6-7. <span style="text-align: justify;">Sõtku tainast senikaua, kuni see on ühtlane, elastne ning laseb kausi servadest lahti. Kui tainas ei näi sulle selline, on liiga kleepuv, pane jahu juurde. </span>Puista tainas jahuga üle, kata tainakauss rätikuga ning jäta sooja kohta kerkima (näiteks leige radiaatori peale või põrandaküttega põrandale).</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">8. Jäta tainas kerkima 1,5-2 tunniks. Tainas peaks kerkima umbes kahekordseks.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">9. Raputa töölauale väheke jahu ning tõsta kerkinud tainas sellele. Tee tainakogus pooleks. Rulli töölaual ühest tainapoolest piklik riba ning jaga see neljaks &#8211; iga tükk peaks kaaluma umbes 60 g.</p>
